Dice Scavenger
Dice Scavenger Ruleset
Players: 2
Setup
Both players will need One twenty sided die (1d20), Four ten sided dice (4d10), One six sided die (1d6), and One four sided die (1d4).
The d20s are the “Character Dice” for each player. They will be placed on the board and moved around throughout the game. The number on the die represents the Character’s remaining health.
The d4s are the “Ability Dice” for each player. They should be set to 4 at the beginning of the game and will be reduced when abilities are used.
The d10s are the “Objective Dice”. They will be placed on the board and captured for points.
The d6s are the “Buffer Dice”. They are rolled at the start of each turn, determining the Character Die’s ability to withstand damage that turn.
The board should be set up as a 4 x 4 grid of boxes, with the interiors of each box being playable spaces
Game Start
The players roll 1d6 each, with the player with the higher result going first for the following steps.
Each player rolls their 4d10 Objective Dice. They then take turns placing them 1 at a time on any open space on the board.
The players then each place their d20 Character Dice set to 20 on any open space on the board. They also set their d4 Ability Dice to 4, and keep it in front of them.
Play begins with the player who went second for the last 2 steps now taking the first turn.
Turn Structure
The turn always begins with the Player Rolling their Buffer Die (d6). For the rest of the turn, any damage dealt to the player from capturing an Objective Die (d10) is reduced by the amount rolled on the Buffer Die (d6). If the roll on the Buffer Die (d6) is a 1, the player may increase their Ability Die (d4) by 1 to a maximum of 4.
Next the Player has the option of using one of their abilities. They may reduce their Ability Die (d4) by 1 in order to do one of the following things:
Reroll their Buffer Die (d6) for the turn, taking the new result.
Reroll any placed Objective Die (d10). It remains in its place with the new value.
Move any placed Objective Die (d10). It can move one space up, down, left, or right onto an unoccupied space.
After using an ability, or if the player chooses not to use an ability, they then move their Character Die (d20). This move can be 1 space to the left, right, up, or down. If the space the Character Die (d20) moves to is occupied by an Objective Die (d10), the player then captures the Objective Die (d10). This is done by reducing the health remaining on the Character Die (d20) by the value on the Objective Die (d10), although this damage is reduced by the roll on the Buffer Die (d6) for the turn. The player then places the Objective Die (d10) in front of them to be counted at the end of the game. If the player has captured the last Objective Die (d10) on the board, the game ends (See Game End).
Assuming the game does not end, play now passes to the next player.
Game End
The game ends when all of the Objective Dice (d10) have been captured. The players then add together the value remaining on their Character Die (d20), captured Objective Dice (d10s), and Ability Die (d4). Whichever player has a higher total is the winner. If the score is the same, it results in a draw.
